　　在村里，夫妻两人结识了96岁高龄的幸田婆婆。幸田婆婆脑袋里总是有很多天马行空的想法，她将这些故事讲述给患有喉疾的女孩小百合（小西真奈美 饰）听，小百合则讲这些话语整理成文章，刊登在村中的小报《阿弥陀堂讯息》上。

　　栗原佐都子（永作博美 饰）与丈夫清和（井浦新 饰）结婚多年，夫妻两人之间的感情一直十分的美满，这段婚姻唯一的遗憾，就是两人无法拥有一个属于他们的爱情结晶。通过特别收养制度，佐都子和清和收养了一个名叫朝斗（佐藤令望 饰）的孩子，朝斗的存在圆了佐都子和清和的梦，让这一家人更加紧密的联结在了一起。
　　一晃眼六年过去，这六年里，栗原一家人生活在平静和幸福之中，佐都子和清和将他们全部的爱都倾注在了朝斗的身上，朝斗也无惊无险的顺利成长。某一日，一通意料之外的电话打破了栗原家的平静，来电的女人自称是朝斗的亲生母亲片仓光（莳田彩珠 饰），她要求栗原夫妇花钱买下朝斗，否则就要将朝斗的身世公之于众。

　　故事发生在六十年代，讲述了长年在外报道第三世界内游击战争、革命演变的著名的通讯记者Jerzy (Zbigniew Zapasiewicz饰演) 生活分崩离析的全过程。角色取材于导演的好友，波兰家喻户晓的著名作家、记者Ryszard Kapuściński.
　　影片由Jerzy在一个娱乐性脱口秀作嘉宾开场，当晚当Jerzy回到家，却发现他的妻子已带着小女儿跟一个年轻男人不辞而别。Jerzy开始挽救自己的家庭……

　　Richard Hardy, a hardworking stockbroker, labors overtime to keep up with the ruinous bills incurred by his beautiful but irresponsible wife Edith, a venal, spoiled socialite who is impervious to his pleas for fiscal restraint. Acting on what she believes to be an insider information, she impulsively embezzles $10,000 from the Red Cross charity she chairs for a stock tip. When she finds the money has been lost, she desperately turns to a Japanese ivory trader with whom she has been thoughtlessly flirting and persuades him to replace the money in exchange for an assignation. When her husband's long-awaited business deal finally materializes, she desperately tries to withdraw from their agreement by replacing the money. Angered and disappointed with her resistance to his advances, he uses a branding device to mark her shoulder as his property. Feeling violated, Edith shoots him in the shoulder and leaves. 　　During the cold and rainy off-season a man arrives in a seaside town and, giving his name only as Pierre, checks into the only hotel which remains open. His arrival arouses curiosity and a degree of suspicion, as people note that he appears to know the area, yet gives no explanation for his presence at that bleak time of year in the dead-end town.

　　A vice inspector for the Paris police takes special interest in the plight of drug-addicted Lucky whom he considers to be more victim than criminal.

　　水原小学四年级学生禹荣达的父母出门经商半年没有来信，荣达靠祖母每天捡破烂挣来的钱勉强生活着。祖母生病，无法支付3个月学费的荣达没有去学校。他朋友的姐姐贵兰把米送到了荣达家，班主任田代老师也来家访，把学费交给了祖母。但是房东把那笔钱拿去顶了房租，所以荣达又不能去学校了。祖母问荣达， 能不能去平泽的姨妈家取学费。
　　早上荣达很早就乘牛车出发，在居酒屋取水，走了6里（约20公里）的路，平安到达了平泽的姨妈家。第二天，荣达拿到了学费和大米坐公共汽车回来，跟祖母打了招呼后，就跑到学校交学费。田代老师让荣达看了同学们为他攒钱的友情箱，说今后不要担心学费，要好好学习。荣达从学校回来的时候，收到了父亲的来信，信上说母亲生病了所以没能联系荣达，同时还寄来了一个装有钱、衣服和鞋子的包裹。农乐队过盂兰盆节期间，荣达的父母回到了故乡。

　　A young boy mourns the loss of his newborn brother when the baby dies. At the baby's wake, the child is given paper wings to symbolize his union with the angels of heaven. The funeral takes place after the wake turns into a drunken affair. When the baby's paper wings are left behind, the boy tries to give the wings back to his dead brother for fear the child will not go to heaven. The young boy also saves a pigeon from being tortured at the hands of other sadistic children in this feature heavy with symbolic and religious overtones.
